Hit and Run of Pedestrian June 04, 2015

On May 25, 2015 at approximately 9:27 p.m., the Coos Bay Police Department was notified that a 17 year old Coos Bay man had been brought to Bay Area Hospital for treatment of injuries he received when he was struck by a vehicle on Woodland Drive in Coos Bay.

The victim reported the suspect vehicle drove toward a line of people walking on the east side of the roadway causing them to scatter.  All of the pedestrians were able to get out of the way of the suspect vehicle except for the victim who was struck by vehicle causing internal injuries and damage to his knee. 

Witnesses at the scene identified the driver of the vehicle as 19 year old William H. Payton of Coos Bay.  Payton did not stop to render aid to the injured victim and fled the scene after striking him. Click here to view picture of Payton.  

Payton’s vehicle was located the following morning, and it was impounded.  Evidence consistent with the victim and witness accounts was found on the Payton’s vehicle. 

The victim remains at Bay Area Hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained in this crash.
