Building Codes Division (BCD)

The Building Codes Division (BCD) provides code development, administration, inspection, plan review, licensing, and permit services to the construction industry. These are integral to the safe and effective construction of structures in Oregon. All electrical and plumbing permits are issued by the BCD. Coos Art Museum

The Coos Art Museum has been the cultural hub of Oregon’s scenic South Coast since 1950. The Museum houses the large Maggie Karl Gallery, the Perkins Room Gallery and the Alcove Gallery along with the Rental/Sales Gallery on the main floor. On the 2nd floor, via either the Art Deco staircase or the ADA-compliant elevator, is the Mable Hansen Gallery and the spacious Uno Richter Atrium Gallery, complete with exposed brick walls and arched ceiling. The meseum has a reputation for high quality exhibits and educational programs.

Coos Golf Club

Coos Golf Club, located south of Coos Bay, is open year-round and is a semi‐private course open to the public with golf pro and driving range. Coos History Museum

The Coos History Museum serves to enhance the intellectual, civic, and cultural life of Oregon’s South Coast by facilitating awareness of local history. The museum’s displays transport visitors back in time to Coos and Coquille Indians’ culture and the legacy of the region’s first settlers. The new building on highway 101 opened in 2014 with a vibrant, state-of-the-art, purpose-built waterfront facility.

Coos, Curry, Douglas Business Development Corporation

CCD offers assistance with long and short‐term financing for qualified businesses. Funds are available for business start‐up, expansion, real estate acquisition, real estate acquisition, leasehold improvements, equipment, inventory, and working capital. CCD also administers the Small Business Administration 504 program, which can loan up to 40% of the total project cost, or up to $2 million in certain cases, at a fixed rate and for a term of 10 or 20 years.

Egyptian Theatre

The historic Egyptian Theatre is a vibrant entertainment complex operated for the benefit of the greater Coos Bay Area community. The non-profit Egyptian Theatre Preservation Association (ETPA) , in cooperation with the city's Urban Renewal Agency, works to preserve, restore and operate the Egyptian on behalf of the city and the community. The theatre plays current and classic movies and hosts community events. A superb example of the Egyptian Revival style popular in the 1920's, the Egyptian Theatre remains much as it did in 1925. The operational Wurlitzer Hope-Jones Unit Orchestra organ is the only theater organ in the state of Oregon that is still in use at the theater where it was originally installed. Due to the Theatre’s historical significance, the Egyptian Theatre was entered into the National Register of Historic Places on May 24, 2010.

Little Theater on the Bay

Little Theatre on the Bay, known as “LTOB,” is the second oldest continuous acting group in the state of Oregon. It is an all-volunteer non-profit organization. LTOB produces musicals, dramas, comedy, and variety shows of all kinds. LTOB's home is the historic Liberty Theater.

Marshfield Sun Printing Museum

The Marshfield Sun Printing Museum is a unique turn-of-the-century newspaper office and job printing shop that features displays of antique printing presses and newspaper and photo-related exhibits. The five-sided building contains all of the type cases and printing equipment used by The Marshfield Sun Newspaper, a weekly that began publication in 1891 and continued until 1944. At that time it was the oldest newspaper in Oregon continuously published by one editor. The museum also exhibits photographs of early Marshfield (now called Coos Bay) working waterfront and river based-transportation.

Mingus Park Pool

Mingus Park Pool, located on the east side of Mingus Park, is open year-round for different types of swimming. The Lap Swim Program goes all year, and there are summer programs for children to learn how to swim and for families to come and have fun together. It is also the pool for the local high school team and for the Gold Coast Swim team. The pool is 25 yards by 45 feet, 6 lanes,3.5-8 feet in depth and is heated to 81 to 83 degrees F or 27-28 degrees C.

Oregon Coast Historical Railway

The Oregon Coast Historic Railway Museum preserves an important part of the region's history by providing a place to restore and display vintage railroad and logging equipment. Along with several locomotives, engines, cars and cabooses, the museum has other equipment, large artifacts, hundreds of photographs, newspaper articles and other material known in train fan lingo as railroadiana in the museum and gift shop. The museum's signature piece is a restored 1922 Baldwin steam locomotive that worked in the region’s forests, and sawmill and logging equipment.

Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area

The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area extends for 40 miles along the Oregon Coast, from Florence to Coos Bay, and is the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America. While famous for its off-highway vehicle (OHV) riding opportunities, the Oregon Dunes also offers many areas for those who are not OHV enthusiasts, including hiking, paddling, wildlife viewing, camping, picnicking, sand play and beach access. The Visitor Information Center is located at the mid-point of the Dunes along Highway 101 in Reedsport, Oregon.

Sawdust Theater

Visitor Information Center

The Coos Bay Visitor Information Center (VIC) provides visitor information, maps, public restrooms, a public computer and helpful volunteers to help visitors find information about the area. The VIC has information on local events, hotels, restaurants, shopping, excursions, and many other things. The center is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm, Saturdays from 11am to 3pm; during the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day) the VIC is also open Sundays from 11am to 3pm. The VIC is located downtown, across from the Boardwalk and City Docks, next to public parking.
