CBPD Welcomes New Police Officer June 07, 2022

On Tuesday, June 7, 2022, Joseph Sparks was sworn-in and welcomed as the newest Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) Officer. Officer Sparks was sworn-in by Chief Chris Chapanar in the Coos Bay City Council Chambers. Officer Sparks’ family members, friends, City Manager Rodger Craddock, Assistant City Manager Nichole Rutherford, CBPD, and other City staff were on hand for the ceremony.

Officer Sparks was raised in Coos Bay and is a proud graduate of Marshfield High School. Officer Sparks served five years in the United States Marine Corps. After his service in the Marine Corps, Officer Sparks and his wife, Lauren, moved back to Coos Bay. Prior to joining the CBPD, he most recently worked as a Corrections Deputy for the Coos County Sheriff’s Office. Officer Sparks and Lauren have a son, Hudson, who was on hand to help mom pin on dad’s new badge.
