American Flags February 26, 2015

American flags are now flying on the 12 existing flag poles along Central Avenue east of 4th Street in downtown Coos Bay.  The City of Coos Bay’s Public Works crew installed the flags earlier this week.  The City’s next step is to repair and install the electrical conduit and power necessary for the lighting for the flags.  This work is expected to be completed before the end of April 2015.

The City of Coos Bay Public Works crew also removed the cracked and aged fatigued flagpoles from the boardwalk and relocated the eight remaining serviceable flagpoles back along the boardwalk.  The City Council’s Flag Subcommittee will meet early next week to determine what flags to hang on the remaining poles.  Long term plans include replacement of all of the 22 flagpoles, including bases and lighting fixtures, as part of a larger Boardwalk Master Plan.  City staff is seeking grant sources for this project.
