Pinwheel Day Recognizes Children Assisted by Kids HOPE Center April 11, 2018

Every year people gather at the Kid’s HOPE Center to put pinwheels around the building during Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. Each pinwheel represents a child abuse victim who the Center assisted over the past year. This year there were 412 pinwheels placed. As you drive through town you may notice the pinwheel gardens associated with bringing awareness. The victory over child abuse and neglect will not be achieved without the support of the entire community and recognition of the importance of awareness raising to decrease incidents of abuse and support child abuse victims and their families.

During the April 3, 2018 Public Meeting, the City’s Council and Mayor approved the signing of a proclamation proclaiming April 2018 to be Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month in the City of Coos Bay. The City encourages all citizens to join in a national effort to raise awareness and help prevent child abuse and neglect.

The public is also invited to attend the Family Fun Day at John Topits Park on Saturday, April 28 beginning at 10 a.m. This annual event is a free family-friendly and tobacco-free event that includes child and family related activities and community information booths. Families can enjoy a free BBQ and provides a venue for our community to be acquainted with the important resources The Kids’ HOPE Center provides.

CBPD Officer Looney and NBPD Detective Doyle were two of the many law enforcement and community members that came together to plant pinwheels earlier today at the Kids’ Hope Center. The pinwheels were planted in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention month.
