New Dispatcher Joins Police Department January 17, 2018

On Tuesday, January 2, 2018, Kaitlynn Rice began her first day with the Coos Bay Police Department as a 911 Dispatcher. Rice started her training process which will prepare her to handle the tens of thousands of calls that come into the Coos Bay Police Department dispatch center annually. Rice applied with the Coos Bay Police Department in August 2017 and rose to the top during that process.

Rice was born in Oregon and moved to the Coos Bay area to attend Southwestern Oregon Community College, where she obtained her Associates Transfer Degree. She then enrolled with Oregon State University in Corvallis, where she completed her studies for a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry.

Rice became interested in dispatching after learning about the job opening from a family friend. Rice also had some exposure dispatching, as her mother was a 911 dispatcher for a period during Rice’s upbringing.

We welcome Kaitlynn Rice into the Coos Bay Police Department family and look forward to watching her serve her community.
