On Friday, April 29, 2022, the City of Coos Bay celebrated Arbor Day by planting three (3) Western Broadleaf Maple Trees and four (4) White Oak Trees in John Topits Park. These trees were donated to the City by North Bend resident Jim Tofflemire. Thank you, Jim, for your donation and contribution to the City of Coos Bay.
Several City staff members, along with Mr. Tofflemire and City Councilor, Parks Commissioner, and Tree Board Member Carmen Mathews, gathered at John Topits Park that morning to plant the trees. Three trees were planted near the exercise equipment at Middle Lake and four (4) more were planted along the trail at Middle Lake.
The Western Broad Leaf Maples are native to the Coos Bay area and the White Oak trees were seedlings from South Dakota which Jim raised in North Bend.
