City Decorates for Holiday Lights at Shore Acres November 15, 2017

Several City staff members recently decorated the City’s tree for the Holiday Lights at Shore Acres State Park. The colorful decorations honor all employees and volunteers who work for the City. The tree is decorated with 176 colored bells, one for each City employee and volunteer, with a person’s name on each bell. Even the police K-9s Dak and Katie have their own bells! The bells’ colors represent the divisions in the City -- red for Fire, blue for Police, yellow for Public Works and Community Development, white for the Library, and silver for Administration, Finance, and City Council. The bells can be heard ringing in the coastal weather, adding a festive sound. The City’s tree is directly in front of the Garden House, where it can be easily enjoyed by the 50,000+ visitors expected at this year’s event.

Firefighter interns Jacob Attebery, Tyler Brown, and Josh Mendoza helped Engineering Services Coordinator Jessica Spann, along with her sons Cameron and Cole, and Codes Enforcement Officer Nik Rapelje put the bells and ribbons on the tree. Contract Administrative Specialist Rishia Mitchell helped write names on the bells and Fire Chief Mark Anderson led the work effort.

Holiday Lights at Shore Acres is open Thanksgiving Day thru New Year’s Eve from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every night, including Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. There is no charge for viewing the lights, but parking is $5 per vehicle or a current OPRD pass.
